I booked the upstairs private dining room for my daughters 8th birthday party, after being impressed by the delicious food on an evening out with a friend. Hilal the restaurant owner was very friendly and helpful, and showed me around the upstairs private dining room, which was beautifully decorated in plum and charcoal shades with lovely quirky touches like copper lighting and metallic wall art. He helped me select items for my party menu that fit within my budget and would appeal to my guests, the majority of which were children, and liased with me on what table layout would suit me best. On the day of the party I turned up at midday with my mehndi themed purple birthday cake (I decided to run with the beautiful colour scheme of the room and the Asian theme!) It was brilliant to have free run of the room before the food was served and the children enjoyed some Indian arts crafts, trying their hand at block printing their own cotton bag and and having their nails painted and glitter mehndi designs painted on hands and arms which they really enjoyed. This allowed the adults time to chat and we enjoyed catching up over drinks and coffees whilst the children entertained themselves. Then it was time for the food - and what a feast it was! Poppadoms and dips, chicken korma, lamb rogan josh with pilau rice and puffy naan breads with vegetable niramash and tadka dhal all served beautifully presented and sizzling hot at the table. Then the tables were cleared and tablecloths whisked away - revealing pristine cloths underneath just in time for the birthday cake to be presented. Cafe Masala staff took care of all of this - from presenting the cake stand on a tray for carrying, ensuing the lights were off for Happy Birthday to serving and cutting the cake themselves. After some photos with their beautiful artwork as a backdrop and some final coffees to finish off our party was over and we were sorry to leave... Before we left Hilal very kindly packaged up some food for two of my friend’s husbands who couldn’t attend the party as they were working - how thoughtful! If you enjoy Indian cuisine and you’re looking to host a private party, you will not find better than Cafe Masala in Stortford. The private dining room was simply perfect - cosy and intimate and just the right size for 20 guests. Thank you for making Sophia’s 8th birthday truly memorable.
